US President Donald Trump says his country will boycott a Group of 20 summit in South Africa, claiming that white people in the country are being persecuted. Trump wrote in a social media post on Friday, "It is a total disgrace that the G20 will be held in South Africa." His post said that South Africa's minority Afrikaners -- people descended from Dutch settlers, and also French and German immigrants -- are being "killed and slaughtered." He added, "No U.S. Government Official will attend as long as these Human Rights abuses continue." Earlier, Trump said that he will send Vice President JD Vance to the G20 summit to be held in Johannesburg later this month. Trump made a similar claim when he hosted South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House in May. The South African government has denied the accusation. The US fact-checking organization PolitiFact has also described Trump's claim as being "unfounded." The United States is set to chair a G20 summit next year. Trump earlier said that his country will host the G20 summit at his own resort in the southern state of Florida. In the social media post, he wrote, "I look forward to hosting the 2026 G20 in Miami, Florida!" Japan's Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae plans to attend this year's summit in Johannesburg.
