Beijing slams US over deal to sell fighter jet parts to Taiwan NHK

The Chinese government has hit out at the United States for selling F-16 fighter jet parts to Taiwan. A defense ministry spokesperson described the move as a "gross violation of the one-China principle."

Officials in Washington announced the 300-million-dollar deal on Wednesday.

On Friday, a Chinese defense ministry spokesperson said the move "undermines peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait."

The deal is the first US arms sale to Taiwan since President Lai Ching-te took office last month.

The spokesperson also said Washington's support for "Taiwan independence separatist forces" will eventually see Taiwan "shoot itself in the foot."
