US Republicans start voting on 'Super Tuesday' NHK

Voters in some US states have started to cast ballots in the primaries on "Super Tuesday" in the Republican nomination race for the US presidential election in November.

Republican primaries and caucuses will be held in 15 states on Tuesday.

Former President Donald Trump is the frontrunner in the battle to be the party's presidential candidate. So far, he has nine victories in eight states and the US Virgin Islands. Former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley has won the primary in the District of Columbia.

The average approval rating from nationwide opinion polls shows Trump leading Haley by over 60 points.

Vote counting will start late Tuesday.
