Trump calls Zelenskyy's Crimea comments 'harmful' to peace talks NHK

US President Donald Trump has lashed out at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for his comments that Ukraine will not recognize the occupation of Crimea. Trump called the remarks "very harmful" to the peace negotiations with Russia.



US media outlets say the Trump administration has presented Ukraine with a peace plan that includes US recognition of Russia's unilateral annexation of Crimea.



Zelenskyy reiterated on Tuesday that Ukraine will not give up Crimea.



Trump wrote on social media on Wednesday that Crimea is "not even a point of discussion," adding, "Nobody is asking Zelenskyy to recognize Crimea as Russian Territory."



Trump then said, "It's inflammatory statements like Zelenskyy's that makes it so difficult to settle this War."



But Trump also said a deal is close. He added, "The man with 'no cards to play' should now, finally, GET IT DONE."



Zelenskyy on Wednesday posted on social media the Crimea Declaration released in 2018 by then-US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The statement said the US rejects Russia's attempted annexation of Crimea.



Zelenskyy said, "We are absolutely sure that our partners in particular the USA will act in line with its strong decisions."
