Russia's state-run railway has resumed a regular train service with North Korea which had been suspended because of the coronavirus outbreak. Russian Railways resumed the passenger rail service connecting Khasan, a border town in Russia's Far East, and North Korea's Tumangang station on Monday. The service was suspended in 2020. The train will operate three round trips a week. The railway operator has expressed hopes that the resumption of the service will boost the number of tourists to North Korea. The move comes as Moscow and Pyongyang are strengthening ties since Russia began its invasion of Ukraine. North Korea has sent troops to Russia in line with a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty that requires each side to provide military and other assistance during times of emergency. Russia has also resumed sightseeing tours to North Korea.
