Aviation and railway industry organizations in Japan say they are considering a review of their anti-infection guidelines. The government decided on Friday to downgrade COVID-19 to the same category of infectious diseases as seasonal influenza in May. Joint guidelines followed by industry groups of airline companies and airport operators call for face masks to be worn on aircraft and in airport terminal buildings. Officials also ask people to maintain physical distancing when standing in line at check-in counters and elsewhere. Passengers are also asked to refrain from talking as much as possible while on board. Another organization involving railway companies and the transport ministry calls on passengers to wear masks and refrain from talking on trains and to maintain physical distancing while in line. The group asks operators to install clear barriers at station counters to prevent infections. Those groups say their review will be based on a new policy the government will introduce.
