A meeting of energy ministers from the Group of 20 economies has opened as Russia's invasion of Ukraine is fueling concerns over the stable supply of energy.
The G20 ministerial meeting began in India's southern state of Goa on Saturday. Japan's Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Nishimura Yasutoshi is participating.
The delegates are expected to discuss diversifying supply chains, expanding the use of renewable energy and helping developing countries reduce their carbon dioxide emissions.
Nishimura appears to be of the opinion that circumstances of each nation should be considered when seeking to balance energy security and decarbonization efforts.
He plans to express Japan's willingness to offer clean technology assistance to emerging and developing nations collectively known as the Global South.
Specifically, Nishimura is expected to mention support for them to introduce renewable energy and thermal power generation technology that can cut CO2 emissions through the use of hydrogen and ammonia.
The G20 grouping includes China and Russia. The question is what message the ministers can send as G20 ministerial talks since Russia's invasion have failed to issue joint statements due to the divide between Moscow and Western nations.
