Lavrov: Putin, Xi to make reciprocal visits later this year NHK

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov says President Vladimir Putin will visit China in late August or early September while Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Russia in May.

Lavrov made the announcement on Wednesday during a speech on foreign affairs he gave at the State Duma.

He said Putin will visit China in conjunction with the 80th anniversary of victory over Japanese militarism and the end of World War Two.

He also said Xi timed his next visit to Moscow to coincide with events marking the former Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany, Victory Day, on May 9. The reciprocal visits are believed to reaffirm Russia and China's close ties.

Russian state-run media on February 10 quoted Russian Ambassador to China Igor Morgulov as saying Xi was expected to attend the events.
