The UN humanitarian affairs chief says he will visit Egypt for talks on sending relief supplies to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing on the Egyptian border.
UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths said on Monday that he will visit Egypt the following day to negotiate with the country's government.
He said, "Aid access is our overwhelming priority." He added that officials will also continue negotiations with Israel to seek the country's agreement on the matter.
The humanitarian crisis is deepening in the Palestinian territory as clashes between Israeli forces and the Hamas Islamist group continue.
