Japanese authorities have revised some of the intensities of a magnitude-7.6 earthquake that struck the Noto Peninsula on New Year's Day. The Meteorological Agency earlier announced that an intensity of 7 on the Japanese seismic scale of zero to seven had been registered in Shika Town, Ishikawa Prefecture. The agency also said that upper 6 was recorded in the cities of Wajima, Suzu and Nanao, and the town of Anamizu. But data from seismometers that the prefectural government installed at three locations in Ishikawa failed to reach the agency. On Thursday, the agency said it had obtained data from those seismometers, and found that one installed in Wajima City had registered an intensity of 7 instead of upper 6. The agency also found one of the two seismometers in Noto Town registered upper 6 and the other lower 6. It had earlier announced that both intensities were lower 6.
