Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed the view that at least 200,000 peacekeepers from European countries would be needed for Ukraine's security after any ceasefire deal with Russia. Zelenskyy was speaking at an annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Switzerland on Tuesday. He was asked about a possible dispatch of peacekeeping forces from European countries if a ceasefire deal were enacted with Russia. The president said 200,000 would be the minimum number of troops required, adding, "Otherwise, it's nothing." Zelenskyy pointed out that the Russian military can deploy about 1.5 million troops, compared to Ukraine's around 800,000, indicating that 200,000 would be the minimum number to prevent a possible new Russian invasion. Reuters news agency says 200,000 is around the size of France's entire armed forces. Zelenskyy indicated last month that he may consider deploying foreign troops in his country before it gains NATO membership if there is a concrete roadmap for the country to join the alliance. Meanwhile, he also noted that arrangements are underway to set up a meeting with US President Donald Trump, who took office on Monday.
