Seoul crush disaster triggers stress-related disorders NHK

The crowd crush disaster in Seoul that claimed 156 lives has caused many people in the country to suffer from stress-related disorders.

The accident occurred last Saturday when many people flooded the Itaewon district to celebrate Halloween. Experts estimate that more than 10 people were crowded into each square meter.

South Korea's public broadcaster, KBS, reported eyewitness accounts by people who performed CPR. A graduate student said he still feels dizzy and his limbs get numb whenever he hears a siren.

Others complained of feeling sick after watching footage of the accident on social media.

On Thursday, President Yoon Suk-yeol instructed healthcare institutions to provide treatment for people who are suffering from stress-related disorders linked to the accident.

The South Korean government said it plans to do more to help the bereaved families and the injured.
