Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi says the Russian invasion of Ukraine must not end in a way that makes Russia the winner, adding that a just and lasting peace in Ukraine is needed. Iwaya made the remarks in a panel discussion on the security of Europe and Asia at the Munich Security Conference in Germany on Saturday. He said Russia's invasion of Ukraine caused the world order to start collapsing and that naturally could have a significant impact on the situation in Asia. He indicated his view that the security of Europe and that of the Indo-Pacific are inseparable. Iwaya said a move towards peace in Ukraine has started and he has high hopes for the United States' leadership. He made the comment apparently with US President Donald Trump's willingness to swiftly end the conflict in mind. But Iwaya added that a wrong message will be sent to China and the world unless the invasion is ended in the right way.
