Qatar to replace China as 2023 Asian Cup host NHK

Qatar, which is due to host soccer's World Cup next month, has also been selected to stage the Asian Cup next year.

The Asian Cup, held every four years, was to be held in China in June and July of next year, with 24 teams taking part. But China gave up the hosting rights due to the COVID-19 situation in the country.

The Asian Football Confederation revealed that Indonesia and South Korea also made bids to host the 2023 Asian Cup, but that Qatar was chosen to replace China.

Qatar has twice previously hosted the Asian Cup, in 1998 and 2011.
