The Japanese government has decided to invite Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva to the country as a state guest next month.
                
The Cabinet agreed on the plan on Friday. The visit is scheduled to take place from March 24 through 27.
                
During his visit, Lula is expected to hold summit talks with Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru, meet Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, and attend a welcoming banquet at the Imperial Palace.
                
Lula would become the first foreign dignitary to visit Japan as a state guest since 2019, marking the end of a six-year hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
                
Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa noted at a news conference that Japan and Brazil have built close ties across various fields as &quot;strategic global partners.&quot;
                
The government hopes to confirm cooperation with Brazil, a key Global South nation, in maintaining and strengthening the international order based on the rule of law. It also aims to enhance economic cooperation with the country.
