Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed frustration over the grain export deal with Ukraine during his recent telephone conversation with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa. Russia's presidential office said in a statement on Saturday that Putin stressed to his South African counterpart that obstacles on Russian food and fertilizer exports have not been removed. The deal could expire on Monday if not extended. Turkey and the United Nations which brokered the deal have urged Russia to agree on an extension but the Kremlin has apparently yet to give a positive response. The statement released by the Kremlin says Ramaphosa briefed Putin on the preparations for the upcoming five BRICs emerging economies summit. South Africa is the chair this year and will host the summit meeting which is scheduled for next month in Johannesburg. If Putin wants to take part in the summit in person, it will put the host country in an awkward situation. It is obliged to detain him if he enters its territory as it is party to the International Criminal Court. The court issued an arrest warrant for Putin in March, accusing him of war crimes for the unlawful deportation and transfer of children from occupied areas of Ukraine to Russia.
