Japan's Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi has told his Group of Seven counterparts that European countries need to continue engaging in security issues in the Indo-Pacific. The G7 foreign ministers' meeting was held in Charlevoix in the eastern Canadian province of Quebec. It wrapped up on Friday after talks on recent moves by China, Russia and North Korea. The ministers expressed concerns about increasing military ties between North Korea and Russia. They also discussed how North Korea, China and Iran support Russia's capabilities to continue its invasion of Ukraine. Iwaya said it is increasingly important for the G7 to cooperate in all fields, including economic security and the fight against information manipulation through the spread of fake information. He later spoke to reporters in Charlevoix. He said he and the other ministers agreed on the growing importance of the G7. Iwaya said G7 members have shared values and principles, and can help deal with various issues amid a volatile international situation. He said he believes all G7 participants agreed on this point.
