Japan seeks resumption of 3-way summits with China, S.Korea NHK

Japan's top government spokesperson told reporters on Monday that the country intends to hold working-level discussions with China and South Korea about resuming trilateral summit meetings.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Matsuno Hirokazu said that he is aware of reports that Chinese President Xi Jinping is willing to resume holding the annual summit meetings at an appropriate time.

Xi conveyed the message when he met South Korean Prime Minister Han Duck-soo in the eastern Chinese city of Hangzhou on Saturday. Han told Xi that South Korea, as the rotating chair, aims to hold a summit by the end of the year.

Matsuno said the three countries share a great responsibility for the peace and prosperity of the region, so it is meaningful for their leaders to hold discussions on various regional issues and specific ways to cooperate.
