In Vietnam, flooding has inundated provinces of the central and north-central parts of the country over the past few days. Thousands have been left stranded. Heavy rain has been falling since Sunday. In Nghe An Province, authorities say more than 1,600 houses have been flooded, and over 800 households cut off. In the neighboring provinces, one person was killed by a lightning strike, and another is missing after being swept away. The capital, Hanoi, has been swamped by an intense downpour. Streets are awash and traffic has come to a halt. Rain is expected to continue across wide areas for some time. The authorities are calling on people to stay on alert for landslides and overflowing rivers.
