Iran Guard chief warns Israel against retaliation for missile attack NHK

Iran warned Israel on Thursday against retaliating for its missile attack on October 1st.

The chief commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Major General Hossein Salami, issued the warning at the funeral of his deputy, Abbas Nilforoushan, which was held in Isfahan Province. Nilforoushan was killed last month in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut.

Salami said: "Be careful not to make a mistake again. If you do, and target us in any way, whether in the region or in Iran, we will strike you in a painful manner again."

The US has provided Israel with an advanced air defense system called THAAD. Salami said that if Israel believes the system can protect them, that would also be a mistake.

Diplomacy is taking center stage in Iran. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has been reaching out to countries across the Middle East, and Iranian media reported that Jordan assured him it would not allow anyone to violate its airspace in an attack.

Araghchi has also become the first senior Iranian official to visit Egypt in a decade. He met with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to discuss how to deescalate the fighting in Gaza and Lebanon.

Araghchi is expected to travel on to Turkey.
