Ukraine ready to arrange Zelenskyy-Trump meeting soon after inauguration NHK

A senior Ukrainian government official says arrangements for a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and incoming US President Donald Trump will begin immediately after Trump's inauguration next week.

Ukrainian media reported on Thursday that Ukraine's Presidential Office chief Andriy Yermak expects there will be a meeting "very soon" to discuss specific plans on how to end the war with Russia.

Yermak was also quoted as saying that it is important for the incoming administration to be deeply engaged and informed about the real situation on the battlefield very quickly, as the administration of President Joe Biden was.

Meanwhile, Russia has been stepping up attacks on Ukrainian forces. An air defense alert was issued in Kyiv as Russian drones struck the capital on Thursday. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer was in the country for a meeting with Zelenskyy on the day.

Ukraine's air defenses reportedly repelled the drones, and no casualties were reported.

Starmer expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people in a news conference after his meeting with Zelenskyy. He said the attack was "a reminder to all of us what Ukrainians experience every day."
