China annual NEV output tops 10 mil. NHK

China says its factory lines have already turned out more than 10 million new-energy vehicles this year. It's the first time annual production of electric, plug-in hybrid, and fuel cell vehicles has crossed that threshold.

State-run CCTV reported on an event to mark the milestone at a factory in Wuhan, Hubei Province.

A senior government official hailed the sector's technological strides and market growth. The official noted that China is the first country to break through the 10-million mark.

Beijing has made the shift to new-energy vehicles a key plank in its national strategy. Annual production has doubled since passing 5 million in 2022.

Sales have grown even as overall domestic consumption has cooled.

Last month, new-energy vehicles accounted for 46.8 percent of all auto sales.

Western nations have been ramping up tariffs on Chinese EVs. They say Beijing's subsidies enable exports at below market price.

Chinese automakers have responded by boosting shipments to Southeast Asia and South America, and building production capacity in those regions.
