MLB: Ohtani fails to pick up win as rain delays Angels-Red Sox game NHK

In Major League Baseball, Japanese two-way star Ohtani Shohei of the Los Angeles Angels started against the Boston Red Sox on Monday, but didn't pick up the win after a long rain delay.

Monday's game at Boston's Fenway Park was the first MLB matchup for Ohtani and his fellow World Baseball Classic winner, Yoshida Masataka.

The Angels beat the Red Sox 5-4, averting a four-game sweep.

In the first inning, Ohtani got a hit as the designated hitter for the first time in two games. The Angels scored four in the inning, thanks mainly to Hunter Renfroe's three-run homer.

As pitcher, Ohtani gave up a run in the bottom of the first, walking a batter and throwing two wild pitches. He then fanned Yoshida in the same inning.

Ohtani left the mound in the middle of the third inning after rain suspended the game for about 90 minutes.

He got two hits, extending his streak of multiple hits for the fifth time. Yoshida had no hits for the second game in a row.
