Typhoon Haikui is moving west over the waters south of Ishigaki Island in the southwestern prefecture of Okinawa. It is coming closest to the Sakishima Islands, bringing high waves and strong winds.
As it approaches the islands, developed rain clouds are covering the islands intermittently, and may bring heavy rain with thunder.
Up to 100 millimeters of rain is expected on the Sakishima Islands in the 24 hours until Monday morning.
The Meteorological Agency warns of high waves, strong winds, landslides, flooding in low-lying areas and swollen rivers on the islands.
Meanwhile Tropical Storm Kirogi, which is heading west over waters north of the Ogasawara Islands far south of central Tokyo, is approaching close to the islands.
The waters near the Ogasawara and the Izu Islands are rough with strong winds.
As warm and moist air surrounding the storm is flowing into the Kanto and Tokai regions, heavy rain with thunder is likely.
Weather officials are calling for caution against landslides, swollen rivers, flooding in low-lying areas, lightning strikes, gusty winds, and hail.
Kirogi is expected to weaken to a tropical depression on Sunday afternoon.
