A: Hey there! Did you catch any recent news? B: Nope, what's up? A: There's some drama going on with Japan and the US about those Trump tariffs. They're trying to sort it out at the G7 summit. B: Really? What do we know so far? A: Well, Prime Minister Ishiba is gonna visit Canada for the summit, and he's planning to have a chat with President Trump about it. B: Oh, I see. And what did our prime minister say during the Diet debate? A: He said things are moving slowly but surely, and it really depends on President Trump's decision in the end. As for where they're at now, he couldn't really tell us. B: Sounds like a tough negotiation! A: Yep, our economic revitalization minister is flying to Washington today for talks. It'll be his sixth visit in as many weeks! He's determined to work out an agreement with US officials. B: Whoa, that's commitment! So they're aiming for a ministerial meeting before the possible Ishiba-Trump summit? A: Exactly! They want to get something sorted out beforehand if possible. ---------------- The Japanese government is making efforts to reach some kind of agreement with the United States over the Trump tariffs on the sidelines of the upcoming Group of Seven summit. Japanese Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru will visit Canada from Sunday to attend the summit. The government is making arrangements for a meeting there between Ishiba and US President Donald Trump. During Diet debates with other party leaders on Wednesday, Ishiba was asked about the prospect of a tariff agreement around the G7 meeting. He said the issue has certainly been making progress step by step, and that the decision on the US side will largely depend on a judgment by the US president in the end. Ishiba added that for now he cannot say at what stage the negotiations are. Economic Revitalization Minister Akazawa Ryosei, Japan's top tariff negotiator, will leave for Washington on Friday. This will be his sixth visit to the US, and his fourth in as many weeks, for tariff talks. He plans to negotiate tenaciously with US officials to pave a path to an agreement. The Japanese government is working to realize a ministerial meeting before the possible summit between Ishiba and Trump.
