Car plows into crowd near elementary school in eastern China NHK

Hong Kong and other media outlets say multiple injuries have been reported after a car drove into a crowd of people near an elementary school in eastern China.

The reports say the incident occurred in the city of Jinhua, Zhejiang Province, at around 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

When an NHK crew visited the scene on Thursday, authorities were restricting access by closing off roads around the school, which is about a 30-minute drive from the center of Jinhua.

A man whose child attends the school said the vehicle drove into the crowd while he was waiting in front of the building after classes ended.

He added that people were panicking and it was unbearable to watch.

Videos purportedly taken at the scene were posted on a Chinese social media platform. They showed children and adults lying on the ground around a car.

But the videos and other information have already been deleted.

Observers say Chinese authorities have been on high alert following a series of random attacks that resulted in deaths and injuries.
