A key four-day meeting of China's Communist Party opens on Monday to decide long-term economic policies.

The third plenary session of the party's Central Committee will be held in Beijing through Thursday.

The party says participants will discuss key policies under two major themes, "overall deepening of reforms" and "promotion of Chinese-style modernization."

The meeting will be held behind closed doors. A communique is scheduled to be released on Thursday.

All eyes will be on what kind of policies the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping will set forth amid growing uncertainty over the country's economic prospects.

China's property market has been in a slump, and domestic demand remains sluggish.

Attention is also focused on whether there will be a reshuffle of those in senior party posts. A media outlet in Hong Kong says Cabinet ministers who have been fired -- former foreign minister Qin Gang and former defense minister Li Shangfu -- may be removed from the Central Committee.
