More than 200 domestic flights to and from Tokyo's Haneda Airport scheduled for Saturday have been canceled in the wake of a deadly collision involving two planes there on Tuesday.

Of the 216 cancellations, Japan Airlines accounted for 100 flights, All Nippon Airways 96, Starflyer 14, and Solaseed Air 6.

At least 32,300 passengers are estimated to be affected, including 14,300 from JAL and 18,000 from ANA.

Disruptions are expected to continue on Sunday as well. Ninety-eight JAL flights and 96 ANA flights have already been canceled.

Meanwhile, the land and transport ministry has said the runway where the fatal accident occurred will reopen on Monday. With the reopening, ANA plans to restore all services, while JAL aims to resume the operations of all but 14 flights.

No major congestion was observed on Saturday morning in Haneda. Airlines said there were vacancies on many flights despite Saturday being the first day of a three-day weekend.

A woman who came to send her nephew off to Akita said they arrived at the airport two hours before departure time in anticipation of disruption. She added that she was relieved to learn that the flight would leave on schedule.

Another woman heading for Hokkaido with her family said she feels more anxious about flying given the accident. She said she just hopes for a safe flight home.
