A landslide triggered by days of heavy rain has left at least 10 people dead in the Philippines. A search and rescue operation is underway. This all comes as wet weather continues to affect more than 270,000 individuals in the southern part of the country. A long spell of rain on the Island of Mindanao has caused floods and landslides. About 10,000 families have been displaced. Government disaster response authorities say about 15,000 people had taken shelter in public evacuation facilities as of Friday. The landslide occurred in the eastern province of Davao de Oro on Thursday. It buried two houses. Local authorities report that five children, including a one-year-old baby, are among the victims. They say one person is missing. The incident happened in a mountainous region, where a mine is located. It is believed that the ground became loose, after three days of heavy rain. Some mine workers live in a residential area that was hit by the landslide.
