Taiwan's Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has visited the Belgian capital of Brussels to meet with high-ranking officials of the European Parliament.
European Parliament Vice-President Nicola Beer revealed Wu's visit on her Twitter account on Friday.
She said, "Taiwan is an important and reliable economic partner for the EU and a firm member of the democratic family." Beer added that the European Union and Taiwan agreed to step up their political, economic and civil exchanges.
Another parliament member tweeted that defending Taiwan's democracy is "just as important as defending Ukraine's."
On Wednesday, Wu was invited to an international conference held in the Czech Republic with President Petr Pavel in attendance.
The event drew attention as the European head of state took an unusual step to welcome the official of Taiwan, with which his country has no diplomatic ties.
Other Taiwanese ministers also traveled to Europe this week. Digital Minister Audrey Tang visited Britain, and Economy Minister Wang Mei-hua was in France. They may have been in contact with high-ranking officials in the respective countries.
Meanwhile, China's Premier Li Qiang will pay a visit to Germany and France from Sunday.
