US citizen crosses the border into N.Korea, UN Command says NHK

The United Nations Command says a US citizen has crossed the inter-Korean border without authorization and is believed to be in North Korean custody.

The Command said in a twitter post that the US national crossed the Military Demarcation Line into North Korea during a tour of the Joint Security Area in the Demilitarized Zone on Tuesday.

It said it is working with the North Korean military to resolve the matter. The UN body oversees activities in the Demilitarized Zone.

Some local media outlets have reported that the American belongs to the US military.
