Biden to travel to Europe, attend NATO summit NHK

US President Joe Biden is set to travel to Europe next week to attend a NATO summit and discuss support for Ukraine.

The White House announced on Sunday that Biden will make a five-day trip to Europe, starting on July 9.

Britain will be the first leg. Biden will meet King Charles and hold talks with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

He will then head to Lithuania to attend the annual NATO summit on July 11 and 12.

The NATO leaders are expected to reaffirm their continued support for Ukraine, amid its large-scale counteroffensive against Russia. Ukraine is seeking membership in the Western military alliance.

After the NATO summit, Biden will visit Finland to attend a meeting of the leaders of Nordic countries. Finland officially joined NATO in April.
