Zelenskyy: 3,800 North Korean soldiers killed or wounded NHK

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says 3,800 North Korean soldiers have been killed or wounded in the fighting in the western Russian region of Kursk.

Zelenskyy gave the figure in a podcast interview released on Sunday. The Ukrainian military is staging a cross-border offensive in Kursk.

He also suggested that Pyongyang has the capability to bring 30,000 to 40,000 more troops.

In the United States, President-elect Donald Trump is set to take office on January 20. Zelenskyy indicated that he could meet with Trump on January 25 or another day.

Zelenskyy added that he will seek to agree with Trump on how to stop the war and stop Russian President Vladimir Putin.

He underscored the need for the United States to give security guarantees to Ukraine. He said if Trump offers strong security guarantees, then there may be a conversation with the Russians.
