In women's curling, Japan's national team has won the inaugural Pan Continental championships after they came out on top of a tight contest with South Korea. Participants in the event were teams from countries and territories in Asia, Oceania and North and South America. The final of the competition in the Canadian city of Calgary on Sunday pitted Japan against South Korea, which is ranked third in the world. Japan and South Korea both scored and the game was tied 3-3 at the halfway mark after the 5th end. In the 9th end of the second half Japan took the lead 6-5. But South Korea added a point in the final 10th end, sending the match into an extra end. Japan then scored two points in the extra end with the last shot by skip Fujisawa Satsuki, winning the game 8-6. The results gave both Japan's men's and women's national teams slots for the world championships next year.
