The Visual Effects Society, a US-based entertainment industry organization, has inducted the late Japanese filmmaker Tsuburaya Eiji into its Hall of Fame. He is known for works that include Ultraman and Godzilla.
The VES is an international group of visual effects artists in film, television and other platforms, which is based in California.
VES honorees include Walt Disney and Stanley Kubrick, the director of "2001: A Space Odyssey."
On Friday, the VES held a ceremony in Los Angeles to induct Tsuburaya and two others into its hall of fame. President of Tsuburaya Productions Nagatake Masayuki received the certificate on behalf of the relatives of the Japanese director.
Performers dressed as Ultraman and his nemesis, Alien Baltan, also attended the event. The two characters reenacted an iconic scene from the TV series. The audience burst into applause when the hero knocked down the alien with his "Specium Beam."
Nagatake told NHK that he thinks the director would be overjoyed about the news.
The president added he considers that the honor represents a prize for the entire Japanese film industry, and that he is very proud of Tsuburaya's achievement.
Tsuburaya is the first Japanese national inducted into the VES Hall of Fame.
