The president of Nippon Steel says he feels his firm is coming to a shared recognition with US authorities on its plans to buy US Steel. The Japanese firm is aiming to make US Steel a wholly-owned subsidiary. US President Donald Trump opposes the buyout plan but says he doesn't mind if Nippon Steel takes a minority stake. The President of Nippon Steel, Imai Tadashi, talked to reporters in Tokyo on Monday. Imai said, "In terms of strengthening America's steel and manufacturing industries, this is my personal view, but I feel the US government and us are increasingly on the same page." Imai says his firm will continue to look for common ground with the US side on the terms of the share purchase, as well as investment plans.
