Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio is set to attend the Group of 20 summit on Saturday in India's capital New Delhi.
The summit opens amid a widening rift between Western nations and Russia, as well as China, over the invasion of Ukraine.
In Saturday's session, Kishida plans to explain Japan's stance of proactively contributing to global issues based on the results of the G7 summit in Hiroshima in May.
The summit's agenda includes the undermining of global food security due to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, climate change and other international issues.
Japan will also stress its support for emerging economies, collectively known as the Global South, which have been deeply affected by these issues. This is aimed at fostering stronger cooperation in strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law.
Kishida also aims to further explain the safety of the discharge of treated and diluted water from the Fukushima Daiichi plant to boost international understanding.
