The UN&#039;s humanitarian affairs chief has indicated the body is pleased that a humanitarian aid convoy has been allowed to enter the Gaza Strip through the territory&#039;s border with Egypt.
                
In a statement issued on Saturday, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths said, &quot;We welcome today&#039;s announcement that an aid convoy has entered Gaza.&quot;
He noted that the 20 trucks in the convoy are carrying life-saving supplies. Griffiths added that the vehicles were allowed to pass through the Rafah border crossing in order to get to Gaza.
                
He also said, &quot;This delivery will be the start of a sustainable effort to provide essential supplies---including food, water, medicine and fuel---to the people of Gaza.&quot;
                
The Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, released a post on X. He said, &quot;WHO health supplies will finally be moving towards Gaza through the Rafah crossing.&quot;
                
The WHO issued a press release on Saturday. It said, &quot;Four trucks carrying WHO health supplies have started to move towards the Rafah border crossing, on their way to Gaza.&quot; It said trauma medicines are among the supplies that the trucks are transporting.
                
The organization called for &quot;the protection of aid convoys and humanitarian teams in Gaza as they work to ensure the safe delivery of these supplies to where they are most needed.&quot;
                
The WHO noted that &quot;the supplies currently heading into Gaza will barely begin to address the escalating health needs.&quot; It called for &quot;a scaled up, sustained and protected humanitarian operation.&quot;
