US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang have met in Beijing. Blinken is the first member of President Joe Biden's Cabinet to make a visit to China.
Blinken arrived at an airport in Beijing on Sunday morning. He was received by Qin at the state guest house in the capital at around 2:30 p.m.
The two shook hands in front of their countries' flags and then proceeded to the meeting venue without speaking to reporters.
Their discussion agenda was expected to include such issues as bilateral ties, Taiwan, and the conflict in Ukraine.
The focal point of Blinken's two-day visit is whether the two countries can keep their strained relationship from further deteriorating.
Blinken will stay in Beijing until Monday, and is expected to also meet with China's top diplomat Wang Yi.
Some observers believe that arrangements are underway for Blinken to meet with President Xi Jinping.
