NHK conducted the telephone survey over the three days through Sunday. About 1,200 people responded.
The approval rate for Takaichi's Cabinet, which was launched last month, is 66 percent. The figure is the third highest on record, following the Cabinet of former Prime Minister Koizumi Junichiro at 81 percent and that of former Prime Minister Hatoyama Yukio at 72 percent.

Seventeen percent said that they have high expectations for the coalition, 41 percent have some expectations, 26 percent do not expect much from it and 11 percent have no expectations at all.
NHK also asked the respondents how they evaluated the first summit meeting between Takaichi and US President Donald Trump last month. During the talks, Takaichi expressed Japan's intention to boost its defense capabilities subjectively and strengthen cooperation with the US.
Of the respondents, 25 percent rated it highly, 44 percent somewhat positively, 18 percent not very positively and 7 percent not at all positively.
Takaichi also had her first summit meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, in which Takaichi said that she wants to build constructive and stable bilateral relations. The prime minister also expressed her concerns over the situation in the East China Sea.
Asked how they evaluate the meeting, 23 percent rated it highly, 47 percent somewhat positively, 18 percent not very positively and 5 percent not at all positively.
Takaichi's Cabinet plans to review existing rules and systems for foreign nationals in Japan and compile basic views on policies by January. The prime minister said that Japanese citizens are feeling unease or injustice over illegal activities by a subset of foreign nationals.
