Japan&#039;s Prime Minister Kishida Fumio has unveiled a support plan for promoting tourism in a quake-hit region in central Japan&#039;s Noto Peninsula.
                
Kishida inspected Wakura Onsen in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture, on Monday. The popular hot spring resort was greatly damaged in the New Year&#039;s Day earthquake.
                
As many hotels and inns in the resort face a bay, most of them have been forced to remain closed after the seawalls collapsed.
                
After being briefed on the extent of damage, the prime minister told reporters the recovery of Wakura Onsen will be a symbol of the revival of people&#039;s livelihoods in the Noto region. He vowed to proceed with reconstruction efforts through all measures available.
                
Kishida suggested the government will lead the work to restore the seawalls, which are necessary for the region&#039;s recovery.
                
He also announced the plan aimed at promoting tourism with subsidies to cover 70 percent of the accommodation fees for tourists to the Noto region.
                
The government will launch the plan as soon as the area becomes ready to accept travelers.
