A fire at a hotel in Bangkok has left three people dead. All were from overseas.

The Japanese embassy says two Japanese citizens were severely injured. Local authorities say one is unconscious.

Other people are also being treated for injuries, including smoke inhalation.

The incident took place on Sunday night near Khao San, an entertainment district bustling with foreign tourists.

Local authorities say the blaze broke out in a hotel room. Footage shows black smoke billowing from the six-story building's rooftop.

Firefighters extinguished the flames about an hour later.

Local authorities say one woman and two men from abroad were killed.
