A US media outlet says President-elect Donald Trump is considering an executive order that would temporarily suspend the enforcement of a law to ban the TikTok social media platform. The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that Trump is mulling issuing the order upon taking office on Monday. It would halt the ban for 60 to 90 days. The legislation is set to take effect on Sunday to outlaw the popular video-sharing app in the US unless its China-based parent ByteDance sells it by then. TikTok has sought a Supreme Court decision to halt the law on the grounds that it infringes on the freedom of speech and is unconstitutional. Trump also asked the top court in December to delay the implementation of the law to allow his incoming administration to pursue a negotiated solution. Reuters news agency has reported that TikTok plans to immediately shut the US operations of the app on Sunday, when the law comes into effect, barring a last-minute reprieve. Another US media outlet reported earlier that the Chinese government is considering whether TikTok's US operations should be sold to American entrepreneur Elon Musk. Beijing is said to have influence over the parent company ByteDance.
