Japan's health ministry has begun workplace vaccinations targeting the Omicron variant ahead of schedule. Businesses that were ready began giving their employees booster shots on Monday though the ministry had initially planned to start the program from next week. Booster shots for the general public became available last month. Anyone aged 12 years or older who has received two shots of the original coronavirus vaccine is eligible for an Omicron booster. All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines started giving pilots and cabin crew shots on Monday at their offices in Tokyo's Haneda Airport. The two carriers are using a Moderna vaccine that targets the original strain of the virus and the BA.1 Omicron variant. The daily capacity for getting a booster at All Nippon Airways is 300 people and 200 at Japan Airlines. The health ministry says by Wednesday last week it had received applications for the program from more than 700 workplaces nationwide.
