Biles dominates women's gymnastics qualifying at Paris Olympics NHK

US gymnastics star Simone Biles has dominated the women's qualifying round at the Paris Games. This is her first Olympics since she took a break to focus on her mental health.

At the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Biles won four medals. But she pulled out of the individual all-around competition and other events at the Tokyo Games and took a break from competition.

She made a comeback last year and won the gold in the women's all-around at the world championships.

On Sunday, the crowd applauded when the 27-year-old was introduced.

In her first event, the balance beam, Biles demonstrated her outstanding balancing skills and performed flawlessly. She also scored high points in the following events with her excellent jumping ability and overwhelming performances.

Biles helped the US team to advance to the team final scheduled for Tuesday. As an individual, she qualified for Thursday's finals of the balance beam, vault, floor exercise and all-around.

After her warmup on the floor exercise, Biles appeared to be limping. Her coach told reporters that it was "just a little pain in her calf."
