North Korea says it carried out another test of an underwater, nuclear-capable attack drone this week. The Saturday edition of the ruling Workers' Party newspaper said a national defense science research institute conducted the test over four days through Friday. The report said the "Haeil-2" submersible drone entered the test area on Tuesday off the eastern province of South Hamgyong. It said the drone spent about 71 hours cruising a virtual distance of 1,000 kilometers before reaching a simulated target and accurately detonating a test warhead. This is the second time North Korea has announced a test of its new weapon, called Haeil, which means "tsunami" in Korean. The country said it first tested the Haeil last month, and claimed it can trigger "radioactive tsunami" capable of destroying enemy ships and seaports. South Korea's Yonhap News Agency says Haeil-2 may be an improved version of the one tested in March because it traveled a longer distance. The latest test comes as Japan, the US and South Korea carried out joint drills in the East China Sea through Tuesday, involving a US nuclear-powered aircraft carrier.
