On 10th June 2023, two Airbus A330s belonging to EVA Air and Thai Airways collided on the ground at Tokyo Haneda Airport.

The Thai Airways Airbus A330-300 with registration HS-TEO was scheduled to operate flight TG683 bound for Bangkok. Whereas, the EVA Air Airbus A330-300 with registration B-16340 was scheduled to depart as flight BR189 bound for Taipei.

However, while they were on a taxiway preparing for takeoff, the Thai A330’s right winglet collided with the rear of the EVA Air A330 which was also on a taxiway.

As a result, the winglet of the Thai aircraft was damaged, meaning it was unable to operate the flight. The Thai A330 was reportedly carrying 250 passengers and 14 crew members on board. Moreover, 207 passengers and crew members were on board the EVA Air A330 at the time of the incident.

Footage from the airport shows the Thai Airways A330 with a broken winglet, and debris scattered in close proximity to the runway.

No one was injured in the incident. However, the incident prompted the temporary closure of one of the four runways at Haneda Airport, causing delays and disruptions to flight schedules. The runway was reopened about two hours later after it was cleared.
