On Christmas Eve, children in the West Bank city of Bethlehem called for solidarity with the Palestinian people. On Sunday, five Palestinian children alternately read out their messages for the children of the world in five different languages at the square in front of the Church of the Nativity. The church stands on what is believed to be the birthplace of Jesus Christ. A 14-year-old girl living in Bethlehem delivered her speech in English. She said her family and neighbors have been under attack and they are seeking peace. She called on children across the world to speak up to bring about change for the human race. She wrapped up her speech by saying children in Gaza deserve to be free. People gathered for the event unfurled a gigantic Palestinian flag measuring 20 meters long at the center of the square in protest at Israel's aggression. In normal years, tourists from around the world flock to Bethlehem to celebrate Christmas. But this year, the city's iconic huge Christmas tree is missing and all holiday events have been canceled except for religious ceremonies.
