Japanese business leaders and Chinese government officials in charge of economic policy have agreed to step up cooperation to solve common challenges both countries face, such as decarbonization and aging society. A delegation from the Japan-China Economic Association met with senior officials at China's National Development and Reform Commission in Beijing on Monday. Shindo Kosei, the head of the Japanese association, said that excessive restrictions, protectionist tariffs and countermeasures resulting from economic security issues are new risk factors. He also said expectations for and interest in the Chinese economy are growing further amid the current complex circumstances and uncertain outlook. The Chinese side expressed hope for stronger cooperative ties. It noted that the Japanese firms taking part in the delegation are global companies, and that they play important roles in two countries' economic and trade areas. The participants also discussed efforts for decarbonization and ways to deal with aging society -- issues shared by the two countries. The Japanese delegation called for cooperation in energy saving, medical and nursing care and other areas. The Chinese officials said they want to share Japan's experience and knowhow in the areas.
