The Cambodian government has announced it has arrested and extradited three people to China after a joint investigation.
One of them is the leader of what has been described as among "Asia's largest transnational criminal organizations."
Cambodia's Interior Ministry says the extradited include Chen Zhi, the chairman of Prince Holding Group, a multinational conglomerate based in the country.
Chen at one point served as the personal advisor to former Prime Minister Hun Sen. The ministry adds that his Cambodian citizenship had been revoked last month.
The US Department of Justice says both the US and Britain have sanctioned Chen for operating scam centers. These compounds are known for forcibly employing trafficking victims to defraud people online.
The US says the Prince Group operates dozens of business entities, including those in real estate and financial services, in more than 30 countries.
Parts of Southeast Asia, including the border areas between Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar, have become hubs for online fraud.
Estimates show criminal networks have earned billions of dollars from scamming victims around the world.
